EGYPT PROTESTS

epa02548880 Egyptians pray near Egypt national flags during a demonstration in Cairo, Egypt, 25 January 2011. Local media sources reported that Egyptian riot police were out in force in Cairo 25 January as tens of thousands of Egyptians allegedly vowed to back a call for the planned nationwide anti- government protest. According to the Arabic-language Facebook group called Revolution Day against Torture, Poverty, Corruption and Unemployment, some 90,000 people confirmed they support the protest that was planned to coincide with Egypt's Police Day on 25 January. The government said the protest was unauthorized and warned that police "will deal firmly and decisively" with anyone attempting to take part. Media reported that at least five protesters were injured when they clashed with police in Cairo during the anti-government demonstration on 25 January. EPA/AMEL PAIN
