The Big Read

I went to the Big Read kickoff at the Arab American National Museum Sunday and had a great time. They served Koshari, my favorite dish from Egypt - I ate it at least 4x a week when I lived there. Click here for a recipe

After a delicious Egyptian lunch, guests moved to the lower level auditorium for a lecture by Dr. Trevor Legassick who translated the original Arabic text into English. He gave a great context for Naguib Mahfouz's life and works. It was truly inspirational and enjoyable.

There are many more events scheduled, visit the Arab American National Museum website for a complete list and more information about the book and author:

Grandma's Quilt is done

Her quilt is finished and she loved it. Jason and I took it over to her Sunday afternoon and she was delighted!

I embroidered, "Grandma Howard 2009 Love Lynn & Jason" across the middle so everyone would know its hers.

Jen already teased that she was going to take it.

I guess the embroidery is a little hard to see but I thought black would be too severe and this is nice and subtle.

Quilting for Grandma

I am in the process of making a lap quilt for Jay's grandma. She is a wonderful woman that is fighting cancer. We try to visit her every weekend; she always asks us to stay longer and come back soon. She is a delight and I can't wait until her quilt is done to see the look on her face when I give it to her.

It might look a little something like this quilt I made for a women and children's shelter, only smaller...

She loved the quilt I made for Cody...
